ALEXA OF LONDON, YACHT

Alexa of London is a classic 37.5-metre sailing yacht, originally built as a replica of King George V’s Britannia and defined by its gaff-rig silhouette and British maritime heritage. The project called for a quiet reinterpretation of this legacy through a contemporary identity. One that respects the yacht’s soul while preparing it for its next chapter.

Studio Vourli was invited to define an interior direction capable of bridging these two worlds without friction or stylistic rupture. Rather than pursuing a full refurbishment, the approach centred on precise, atmospheric interventions, recalibrating the existing interior to establish a calm foundation for the new identity to unfold.

Materiality became the primary language of transformation. A palette of understated luxury -natural linen, alpaca throws, silk, hand-formed raw ceramics and controlled stainless-steel accents, was selected not for convention, but for meaning. Beyond their tactile and visual qualities, these materials are inherently suited to life at sea; breathable, adaptive to shifting temperatures and resistant to humidity, offering comfort through changing marine conditions. They operate in deliberate contrast -raw beside polished, organic against classical joinery, creating an environment that feels tactile, lived-in and quietly attuned to Alexa’s evolving character.

Stillness, tactility and narrative relevance shaped every decision. Subtle shifts in texture, proportion and object-presence softened the classical interior and introduced a clearer, more grounded atmosphere, one that aligns with the yacht’s emerging identity while honouring its heritage.

This phase stands complete as a self-contained transformation, yet remains open to future evolution: the first considered step in Alexa’s long-term reimagining.

Designed as an anchoring environment, Alexa’s interiors prioritise stillness, tactility and material continuity over display.

A sculpted marble coffee table translates Alexa’s new identity into form, abstracting the stern’s geometry and logo into architectural gesture.

Recurring anchor objects bring softness, ritual and orientation to life on board.
